I went to this seminar last year... As Caribou pointed out, the President of the Law Soc basically tells you that the most direct route to a training contract is through personal contacts. I expect that this will be emphasized even more this year due to the current climate. Some aspects of it were interesting though. Newly qualified solicitors give their account of the lengths they went to to get an apprenticeship. Most of the advice given on how to get a contract you have heard before i.e. being persistant, sending cvs, networking, preparing for interview etc. At the end of the seminar everyone is split into smaller groups for the CV workshop. You have to bring a copy of your current CV and a solicitor goes through it with you. I found this quite beneficial as she gave us some solid CV tips on what exactly she would be looking for when considering calling a candidate for interview. As regards the price, I think it was somewhere in the region of 60 euro last year.
