Hi,

Some of you may know that at Griffith we put the fe1 course online as
well as live. It’s basically the video of the lecture “on-demand” (as
our marketing people have decided to call it). The move to this was
partially inspired by the existence of groups like this – i.e. it made
some of the “highers” realise that people don’t just depend on
education on-site, but work in different ways nowadays.

I can’t tell anyone they need these courses. Many, many people do
well without them and with textbooks and, above all, good solid work
and a dedicated, disciplined study timetable, but I’ve tried to get
GCD to come up with some assistance for those who want them. Nor can
I repeat the crap you'll be reading elsewhere about how everything is
"fine" and that there are jobs everywhere.

Bottom line is that I’ve been trying to get discounted rates what-with-
the-times, and I’m not sure how to make this workable, but I can offer
everyone on this group a 10% off on the €350 and roughly 12.5% off on
the €395 – i.e. €315 for online (which includes the new manuals) and
€345 on the live lectures.

Maybe think of it as a “thank you” for the insight I’ve been able to
get for market demands from your good selves.

Now, I’m told the loss of revenue on this becomes intolerable after a
certain number of people take it up, so I’ve told the office to offer
this to anyone registering with the code “GOOGLEGROUPSFE1”. I’ve been
forced to keep it limited to fifty people unfortunately, but I’ll keep
working on that.

It’s not a lot, but maybe it’s something. Other than that, there are
one or two other things.

There was a post there about whether 2007 manuals would suffice. I’m
not sure that they would. However, we have changed manuals for the
2009 sitting, and this leaves me with about 30 (but not in
constitutional) manuals for each subject from 2008. They were for the
shredder. However, if anyone has an old manual (however they got it)
– you can send in the cover (just rip it off) and you can have a 2008
one in place, until the supplies run out (and i'm about half way into
them at this point). It seems a bit better than shredding them.

Before the courses start, there is also an introduction to law
course. It’s a bit tough to call, because students don’t usually
register well in advance. To combat this, I’m getting it put online
on the “free” website. If anyone is starting off and needs help on the
basics – e.g. terminology, courts structure, common law principles, it
should assist if anyone needs it and no registration needed etc.

Equally, we’ve developed an online tutoring system. Whether or not
you’re a student at GCD you can submit work for correction / feedback
to our staff. There is a small fee for each submission, but if you
just want to see if you’re on the right track re exam technique /
answer depth, it may help. Usually, just getting feedback on one or
two questions is enough for some people.

Regards

Brian, GCD
