Adam,

In this case, the permission denied error would be caused by the user
that Tomcat runs as not being able to write to the directory.  This may
be different than the user that you use to connect to Fedora.  On my
server, for instance, I have a dedicated tomcat user that Tomcat runs
as.  My Fedora database connections are made using a fedora user.

You can check to see what Tomcat is running as by looking at the process
list.  A "ps auxww | grep tomcat" (on Linux) will show you the process user.
