That would be an excellent idea, thanks. Possibly the original rationale might have been that any service on an object would be expected to be related to the object's data (and therefore bind to a datastream). However since an object's data can be exposed using the resource index (and "binding" it to the object using the $pid default parameter mechanism), then datastream binding should not actually be required.
