I've added a document describing the modifications I've made, and uploaded the patch. It is slightly different to the previous patch. Instead of some of the query rewriting logic being hardcoded into the Java class, it is in a properties file read by Config.java. The Java code is now simpler, and behaviour can be modified at run time. Again, I haven't got round to testing it with LDAP yet.
