think about this then,

example .netrc file:

  machine myworksite.com
  login raymond.r
  password letmein
  machine anotherftp.net
  login ray.c
  password open4me

edit .netrc with hex editor to change password to non ascii hex.
save file, change permissions to rw-------, and you are done.

to ftp login at myworksite.com

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ ftp myworksite.com
ftp>

what could be easier???
