Nevertheless it should still be fixed if it is a bug in Pidgin.
I now got a lead at the problem. It seems I have a leftover avahi
package back from F7 that won't uninstall. How to get rid of that? It
tells me that %postun fails.
# rpm -q avahi
avahi-0.6.17-1.fc7
# rpm -e --noscripts <package>
