Try
[EMAIL PROTECTED] mario]# tail -f /var/log/messages
Then use <CTRL> + <C> to exit/quit the tail part.
here's an example
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ tail -f /var/log/messages
tail: cannot open `/var/log/messages' for reading: Permission denied
tail: no files remaining
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ su -
