When Leopard helpfully mounted the image, I got confused by all the
files and folders.
Another question:
I tried Ubuntu on my Inspiron 7500, but context switching was sooooo
slooooow it drove me crazy. Will Fedora be any swifter?

Just download the standard installation DVD image (a single large
file)
and burn it as an ISO. In MacOS you do this with the Disk Utility (in
Applications->Utilities).
