ran 'badblocks -svw -p 5 /dev/sdb1', no errors.

possible 'selinux' did not like way 'ctorrent' was using a predefined
file size, even tho it gave errors in only first 400 meg of file.


any particular reason you used:
badblocks -w  /dev/sdb1
instead of:
badblocks -n  /dev/sdb1

or
e2fsck -fvy -k -c -c /dev/sdb1
???
