after logging in I get a momentary message box at the top of the screen:

I got this message late in Fedora 8 and now in F9
some CD players work well, some don't work well, some don't work at all
I have sound built into the motherboard!
As of F9 the "sound" on Fedora has deteriorated..esp with F9
