Sorry I didn't respond sooner...
I had the same problem with an external DVD drive when I installed FC5. Used
the CD (Came in a FC5 'Bible'. Full install DVD, minimal install CD, and the
'Extras' CD)to boot-up the system (which initialized the external drive)and
then issued the command to install from the DVD media.
Not sure if it would work across different versions. But, worth a try, next
time.
