yum install xsettings-kde

In short, gtk-based apps don't initialize/use their gconf-based prefs unless
gnome-settins-daemon is running, which only happens in a gnome desktop,

same services to gtk apps on a kde environment, so that they respect kde
preferences, like fonts.
