I shouldn't really butt in, but what is the advantage of using hplip, as opposed to just giving the printer in CUPS?
Well, maybe I am being unfair. I run hplip with my ancient LaserJet 5L, because hplip suggested it could clean the print-head, and tell me how low the cartridge was; but in fact I find it cannot do either with this printer.
