Would certainly seem to indicate that there is a problem with the configuration. What method did you use to configure the printer? system-config-printer or the web based cups interface? FWIW, all network printers that I know have been "pingable" so if you can ping the printer you don't have a networking issue. -- To err is human, to purr feline. To err is human, two curs canine.
