yes, read the man page for ffmpeg

many examples given
many, many, many options
If 3gp files appear to be a problem, try playing with wmv or other files
first.

If you're not really into the reading the man page for ffmpeg, then no,
I wouldn't have other suggestions because ffmpeg is the killer tool.
