/boot/grub/grub.conf  is the configuration file
/boot/grub/menu.lst  is just a symlink for compatibility
/etc/grub.conf  is also just a symlink for convenience

Activating the "hiddenmenu" option is not supposed to remove the "timeout"
setting, btw.
