On 6 I'm not sure. It's not good that it's a .so that doesn't have a major name in it, but this is very much a legacy library. Perhaps it's worth asking on the extras/maintainers list about it? It's been this way for ages and I'm afraid fixing it would break something, so not sure it's a blocker in this case.
