Two things. First the concept of the Philosopher's Stone (Alchemist Stone) is
pretty old, it's the magic that changes base metals into gold. So I'm sure
both writers were going back to older sources.

I have mentioned before I borrowed the Tsurani ship in Magician from the Korda
Brother's film of The Thief of Bagdad without realizing it until I saw the film
a few years after publication of the book. It was at a retrospective/art
theater and I hadn't seen the film since I was a kid. So if anyone wants to
see what that Tsurani ship looked like, rent the film. It's a great movie
fantasy, anyway.

I suspect there are some other things that stuck from when I was a kid, but
nothing else springs to mind.

Best, R.E.F.
