Yeah, I got out of that black hole. One of the stories I wrote (editor's desk, polite hand-written note to reject it, alas) included a throw-away description of a way to do FTL travel. And just yesterday I found out that in doing the throw-away description of it, I described the factorization of relational hypergraph elements in a k-way partitioning (lowest cost) problem. Eh.
