Was the fact that Kevin's son would become emperor a part of the story line
from the start, or was it something that evolved along with the writing?
And was this what promted your message to Janny?
We had no idea where that romance would go. Or even, at first, if it would be
a romance. Janny was 100% against introducing him, until I said, "He's Errol
Flynn in Captain Blood," and she said, "Oh, damn. That will work." The
marriages and having a son who became emperor evolved much later.

Never attribute to malice what can satisfactorily be explained away by
stupidity.
I always pictured him as Anjin-San in Shogun

Alas, my age betrays me and I have no clue as to who or what you are talking
about!?
But the addition of Kevin was a master stroke.
Was writing an entire series with a female protaganist difficult considering
the you generally write from male perspectives?
