A lot of it has to do with copyright.

Example: A fan says "I want to see a book about x, y, and z". So Ray
writes it. Then the fan goes "Hey, that was my idea. Where's my share
of the profits?" and takes Ray to court.

In other words, don't tell Ray what to write, otherwise he may have to
scrap a project he is working on. He has said this on many occasions,
and fans should not get offended when he says it and should respect
his wishes. Just take it as gospel and let Ray write, and we, as
fans, enjoy the benefits.
