Enjoyed Mistborn, though sometimes a bit too pseudo-religious at times. Hoping
it makes it to the big screen. Would be a good Game of Thrones type series.

WoT is one of those that if you make it past the first book (now split into 2)
you’re hooked. Has its obsessive (very, very, madly obsessive) fanboys/girls at
JordanCon & dragonmount. That’s a scary forum on there. Mr. Feist would have a
field day baiting them! They pick apart every nuance and thread until they run
out of story to enjoy! As I said, obsessive.

Feist fans tend to be a bit ‘milder’ and just enjoy the ride. Out of the 2 I’m
still a Feist fan at heart! It’s got football in it. Which other fantasy
series can say that! [Smile]

Stephen,

I started The Gathering Storm this afternoon actually. Started my re-read way
back in April and for the first few months thought I'd badly mis-timed my
reading because I was burning through the series, but starting a new job at the
beginning of September put the brakes on somewhat...looking good for the
January 7th release now.

Brandon Sanderson has indeed done an incredible job. Mistborn was very decent,
with a really interesting magic system for those who like that kind of thing.

Thinking about it, Brandon could be the kind of author Feist fans may like -
particularly in that he's pretty prolific. It's unusual a calendar year goes by
without something with his name on being released.

Best Regards,
Paul Maynard

Feeling your pain Paul. I’m on ‘Crossroads of Twilight’ for the re-read.
Hoping to time it so that it’s finished for new year. Then AMOL. Once that’s
done, start the re-read from Magician onward! Should keep me going (other
authors books and work/life permitting) until May!

WOT is very different to Feist’s books. More prose & pov threads. Has it’s core
in a lot of mythologies melded into a unique series. 14 books in all. A LONG
read. Other major thing is that the actual timeline of the books happens over a
~5yr span. A bit of a blink of an eye in Feist’s timeline which is several
centuries. Both have their ‘pasts’.

Robert Jordan (who wrote the Fallon series as well as many of the famous Conan
books) died a few years ago. The last 3 books are finished by Brandon Sanderson
using the copious amount of thread notes and his editorial team (inc Jordans
wife). He’s done a fantastic job so far. Sanderson also wrote the Mistborn
books.

Lani,

The series is called The Wheel of Time, by a guy called Robert Jordan. The
first book is called The Eye of the World. If you check it out let me know what
you think =]

I know what you mean about characters that you come to love. Pug, Tomas, Nakor,
Erik, Roo and countless others feel like friends to any number of people on
this list, I'm sure. I'm also sure Ray will enjoy being able to introduce us
all to an entirely new set of characters when he puts his mind to something
else in the coming years too.

Best Regards,
Paul Maynard

Thanks for that Paul,
All i need is another series to keep me on tender hooks *laugh*.
I was used to reading Anne Rice and of all things Stephen King till my brother
got me hooked on Ray which i have to say is far superior reading. But the
series and getting hooked on a line of characters who you never want to end is
almost too much LOL.
I will check out Memory of light though, who is the Author?
Kind regards
Lani

Lani,

Waiting on A Memory of Light which comes out in January is killing me enough
right now. Eagerness to read it combined with complete fear of it being the end
of the 14 book 'Wheel Of Time' series which I've loved for years! Check it out
if you haven't already.

Best Regards,
Paul Maynard

Hello Paul,
Well im envious of you actually, at least you havent read everything. The
WAITING is just driving me a little NUTS.
Enjoy, you really dont know what your missing right now :).
I must always research first before reading from another Author because im kind
of impatient and really afraid of the END book :(.
Happy reading, get your tissues handy too.
Lani

Morning All!

I have a confession to make...my reading and keeping up to date with the
Riftwar has slipped badly, and some of you of list stardom may never forgive
me. Ever since getting my First Edition of RaDL signed by Ray while he was on a
UK tour (which, of course, I then refused to open - spine protection!), I've
not read anything Riftwar related. I know, I know.

My thinking was to wait for the paperback of RaDL to come out as I read a lot
on lunch breaks, at relatives houses, etc, and it's much more tranport
friendly. That purchase never happened, nor any subsequent books so my mind has
yet to be graced with the words of the Demonwar or Chaoswar Sagas.

However! Seeing Magician's End written on a front cover, regardless of it not
being a final draft, has just changed my mindset and I believe I'll be
Feist-focussed again in the not too distant future, getting myself fully
up-to-date with the world(s) of Pug & co in time for the May release of a book
I dread only second to A Memory of Light for ending series' that I've grown up
with.

If the book is half as good as that cover it promises something epic.

Best Regards,
Paul Maynard
