I flip back and forth between craft beer and whiskeys. When I'm in a whiskey mood I always drink it neat. No water. No ice. No cola.
Rye Whiskey: My current favorite whiskey is Straight Rye. All you can seem to find around here is Bulleit Rye. It's supposedly been making a comeback in recent years, but selection from distributors hasn't improved. I keep hearing Whistle Pig Straight Rye recommended, but I can't seem to buy it anywhere. Irish Whiskey: Redbreast 12 (I'd love to get my hands on some Green Spot, but it's hard to find). This use to be my favorite and my regular drink before I fell in love with Rye. Bourbon: Not a regular drinker. Nothing against it. I just haven't found one I really like. Tennessee/Sour Mash: I have a shot of JD once a year to commemorate the anniversary of my father's death. Though, sometimes I'm stuck drinking it because it's the only whiskey at the party/event. Scotch Whisky: I don't drink Scotch. Present company excluded, I don't much care for the douchebags that have jumped on the Scotch bandwagon in the last few years. Scotch drinkers have left such a negative impression on me that it's ruined my desire for the drink. It seems there's more people drinking it just to say they drink Scotch than because they genuinely like it. Islay Scotch Whisky: I can appreciate what they're doing with these, but to me it tastes like someone made a cocktail of 3 parts Scotch and 1 part Liquid Smoke. Too over the top for me. Granted, I've only tried Lagavulin 16. I like heavy smoke on my BBQ meat not my whiskey.
