Touring in the US isn't what it used to be. I have no specific idea
why. Maybe it's the aging of the readership in general and specifically
to SF/F.

You will know when its really bad. I was in a bookstore in Oxford in
1999, and Colin Dexter (Inspector Morse) was sitting in an isle of
books, at a school desk, signing books, with not a fan, or member of
staff in sight :)
