Hi Paul, Lots of solid recommendations from everyone. I'd love to recommend a few but other members of the list covered some of my favorite authors. So, I'll throw in something a little bit different. It's The Camulod Chronicles by Jack Whyte. It's the story of King Arthur but grounded in reality rather than magic. Definitely not fantasy in the traditional sense of the word but fantastic nonetheless. I bumped across The Skystone and was instantly absorbed into the series.
