Doh, moment. I got so locked up in the shopping retail thing, I forgot to say, spend your time if you can visiting a couple of distilleries. They are fun and the tasting is great. My first choice is getting up to Speyside. About 50% of all distilleries in Scotland are in that district, and some of the very best, like Glenfiddich, Macallen, Balvine, The Glenlivet, Cardhu, Knockdhu, etc.
Thanks for the list of websites to check out. I'm more of a rum fan than whiskey, but whiskey makes the wife happy. :D
Our trip is going to be limited to west-central Scotland, but there are distilleries in both Oban and the Isle of Arran that we hope to have the time to check out. And then we'll look into rip's suggestion of the Glengoyne Distillery. :)
