on the other hand,

1) Don't start threads that are off topic.
1a) Thread drift (it starts out on-topic, then sort of evolves) is accepted
... up to a point.
1b) Any thread that includes input from Ray is -- by the very definition of
this list -- on topic.  This means that threads on American Football (and
to a greater or lesser extent, other worldwide sports except for,
apparently, Baseball [have we ever talked about baseball?]), whiskey and
food are pretty much on topic.

2) Use standard English (or Standard French, or Standard German or Standard
Foo).  Inter- or intrasentential switching will be looked down on but is
allowed, and univocal heteroglossia will be applauded.  Using internet or
txt slang will be slapped down immediately.

3) Don't believe that rip guy.  Dude makes stuff up.

4) Don't avoid the rest of the Empire series.  [opinon] Ray's best work in
the entire series. [/opinion]
