I'm ready to start the vote. As far as the licensing issue, I think the approach is a good one. If nobody else volunteers, I will attempt to remove the offending code. Perhaps it is a good idea if we start doing this now (maybe even in a branch or sandbox for now so we can easily apply this if necessary).
