When my Skeeter was exhibiting the symptoms similar to your Melange, I took him in first thing in the morning, his bladder was full and he wouldn't have made it another day. He had been exhibiting symptoms of crying and taking longer to urinate and going to the box alot, for a couple of days before it dawned on me (and I saw the blood) that there was something wrong. He was blocked by cyrstals and they had to catheter him right then. He was on DL methianine (sp?) for years and then on a special food to get him off the meds for the rest of his life.
