this just came up in another group, and it seems that feral-trappers SWEAR by kentucky fried chicked with the bones removed.... most of mine just wait for the reassuring sound of dry food rattling in a bowl... i've also had luck waiting til the middle of the night, when there aren't as many people sounds, and calling softly and REALLY listening for answering meows.... and listen to your gut, too--martha had been gone for 8 days, and i'd really pretty much given up, when i just HAD to go outside around 10 one night--went to the back yard, called her name, and durned if she didn't appear.....
hope the dog whistle works, tho!

You probably have heard this, but I'm told that when cats cannot be found they are sometimes hiding not far away. Are you putting food out - funky smelling food like Fancy Feast - but I guess you don't want to attract those dogs either.
