My  Tucson was almost 6 when she tested + & my three others where around her for 2-5 years & all have tested neg.  As she was always an indoor cat not exposed to virus, we assume she had virus since birth…I chose not to separate them (would really have been impossible) & have the others vaccinated for felv.  So far they continue to show neg.

Subject: when is FelV contagious?

Hello,

Does anyone have some info on this....Is a cat contagious only when they begin to show signs of FelV or have they been contagious the entire time? I am curious as Scully had the virus "hidden" for almost 10 years. She had no symptoms until January. I'm curious because my other cat has tested negative. However, if she was only recently contagious then his test may not of been accurate. I would like to adopt another playmate soon for him but I don't want to put a healthy cat at risk if there is a chance he is positive (I could find another pos. to adopt if this was the case). I have found sites on the Internet that give me conflicting views and I am confused...

Thanks,

Susan
