Hello,
My name is
Laurie and I have two cats, 2 1/2 year old BJ and 9 month old Mitzi. Both
are feline leukemia positive. I will try to tell you my story as briefly
as possible. I adopted BJ in April of 2004 from a local Humane
Society. At the time, he was perfectly healthy. However, he had been a
stray and showed signs of having been in fights with other cats at the
time of his rescue.
Three
weeks later, he had an ear infection which required surgery. He recovered
nicely from the surgery, but, was diagnosed with feline leukemia two
months later. At the time, I was taking him to a traditional vet
who told me that cats with this illness do not do well and that he would
keep getting sick and die.
I
IMMEDIATELY started doing my own research on the disease and its
treatments. I found out that FeLV, as it is called here, is a very
treatable illness. My research showed that it is being treated by
vets who practice alternative veterinary medicine using holistic,
homeopathic and other methods. I started looking for such a vet in my
area. My last visit with the first vet was on a Friday afternoon and my
first visit with my new vet was on the following Monday. That was just
over a year ago. Under her guidance, BJ has been doing great. In fact,
last February, I adopted 11 week old Mitzi. She was diagnosed FeLV+
a week before I brought her home. She is now about 9 months old and is
doing great, also.
Here is a
web site that might help you find a vet in your area who might be able to
help you. I must stress that I am not a veterinarian and cannot dispense
medical advise.
http://www.holisticvet.co.uk/associations.htm. I hope this
information is a step in the right direction for you and
Misty. I love cats more than I can ever say and I want to
help in any way I can. If there is anything I can do, please e-mail me.
Sincerely,
Laurie B. Oliver

Misty has just been diagnosed by my vet as positive for feline leukaemia
and the vet has told me that there are no real treatments for this
condition and that now she has been positively diagnosed she is unlikely
to live longer than a year. I have looked through at various sites
and am totally confused by the amount of information out there,
HELP!!! Can anyone give me any no nonsense advice with regard to
holistic treatment availability or indeed any advice. I have been
looking at Willard's water and colloidal silver. Does anyone have
any information on these or anything that might help her, she is only
approximately two years old and I have only had her for six months
as she was abandoned by her previous owner.
