I thought you couldn't give lactated ringer's sub-q because it would cause the skin to slough off. The vet I used to work for told me this... to be very careful to not get the lactated ringer's mixed up with the saline, because if you give lactated ringers under the skin, it does serious damage to the tissue, and can make the cat's skin actually SLOUGH OFF of their body. Maybe she was just trying to scare me into getting the right bag the first time...
