Only the old-timers will remember me as I don't post much anymore. My FeLV girl (Lucky) is doing so well, I've been reoccupied with nursing some of my others that have senior related problems. I'm so terribly far behind in posts, I almost missed this one. If we can just stay hurricane-free for a little while, maybe I'll catch up.

Anyway, I've been using LRS for subqs for about 15 years now on a regular basis. Ringers are the most commonly used (although there are others for specific needs) and are absolutely safe.

One word of caution: Any time you do subqs on a regular basis, be sure to watch potassium levels carefully. While the fluids are lifesaving, rehydrating, and flush toxins from ailing kidneys, they will also flush out electrolytes. So just watch that K+ on the labs.

Hope this helps,
Jo

Could it be a misunderstanding on a vet’s part – I am on CRF list and I know most of the people use LRS and never heard of this – and they are the first people to warn if this is a problem.. I can forward the email and ask them if you want..
