That is not true about not being able to stop epogen after starting it, in fact a girl I know whose cat was kept alive by it for 2 years, would lower his does according to what his numbers were. With him he would go weeks in between doses when his numbers were good and as soon as it was apparent with his behaviour that he was getting low in red cells he would increase his doses. For 2 years epogen kept him alive, he had anemia (non regenerative, CRF, and lymphoma), I'm not sure what caused his anemia, I think it was the cancer but not sure.

If Hannibal's numbers were to come back up you would want to lower his dose and probably spread them out, I would think if it stayed normal discontinue it. I have never heard that you couldn't restart it if his number went down again, but I will check on that. I think I asked my vet about that but I can't swear to it, I had so much going on at that time. I will find out though.
