Karen, you are in my thoughts and prayers, but I recommend you take her to a specialist at least once, for diagnosis. Your vet might be right, or he might be wrong.  A bad vet said my horse Shire had a cancerous tumor on his neck when I was young and that he needed to be euthanized before it strangled him. It turned out to be an abcess, which indeed would have strangled him if another vet had not lanced it.  I know it will stress her out to take her to a specialist, but this is about life and death. She may be at the last stages of something, but she may not. Michelle
