Hi Dede,
 
I don't think it is the age of the cat, I think it is the time between tests.  Giving them a long time between tests (my vet recommends 6 months) allows them to throw off the virus or sequester it if they are going to. 
 
Even if Ki is positive, it isn't a death sentence, like some would have you believe.
