it's true that one of the FIV groups, and another FeLV group had to change their monitoring/membership criteria because of a problem poster...
at the site where i've been a chat host for over 6 years, we occasionally get people who have nothing better to do than mess with people's heads--most notably, the person who created more than a dozen very credible identities and had the whole staff fooled til she started getting her cats and dogs mixed up and we caught on--doing a web search, we discovered she'd been doing this all over the internet for YEARS.... she hacked some of our computers, and even managed to find my address at the cat sanctuary and try to pass herself off as a shelter with a FeLV kitty needing placement. people just have to develop radar, and pay attention to their gut when something/someone seems "off"--and be careful, as always on the web, with how much information you give out in public. hee hee--and be REALLY careful if you establish relationships with people outside of the list..... you might end up in endless IMs with photos of cute kitties and gorgeous gems and minerals, or finding crow experts for folks... Hey guys, I belong to the yahoo hyper-T group as well (for Julie), and we recently had a very strange experience with this weird guy. He joined the group and made friends for a week or so. He seemed very legitimate and concerned about his cat. Then he started writing strange things, and ended up attacking people with his posts and writing very disturbing, profane, and cruel things about the members and cats in general. He kept joining the group under new names and the moderators kept booting him, so now they've had to set all new member posts to being moderated so that we can keep him out of the group. One of the ladies in the hyper-T group surprised me by saying that the tone and content of his posts sound a lot like other posts written to another online cat group (FIV) recently, and that he may just be some sort of sicko who does this with his obviously large amount of free time. The sad thing is he started flirting with this lady who lives alone and is on disability and she fell right into it, and they were posting a lot of personal OT posts back and forth through the site. This guy needs help. I just wanted to warn you guys in case we have any weirdos show up here. I know I probably don't need to remind you guys but please be careful with posting your personal info. to anyone until you've known them a long while. You are all such wonderful people, I would hate for any of you to be hurt in any way through our wonderful site. If he does show up, the best thing to do with this type of person is to completely ignore them instead of responding to them, which is how they get their jollies. :) Wendy __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
