With the type of anemai he has, autoimmune hemolytic, having the wbc up is bad. It means his own body is destroying the red blood cells faster than he can make them. That's why we are giving him lots of steriods, to try to keep his immune system down....and that's why a transfusion won't do him any good. It just gives the white blood cells more material to destroy:(
