I know people that use the baby enemas on their kitties.
Also, baby supositories (?) just slice thema bit thinner.

I had a cat who when he got "older," had chronic constipation. After many
expensive trips to the emergency vet (as his problem almost always got severe
in the middle of the night), I just decided I could do an enema myself. Just
took a plastic syring with warm, soapy water and injected it in his rectum.
Worked like a charm an he lived comfortably for several more years.

Bob is 15. I can't tell that he's going because there are so many cats,
but I haven't found any blood or evidence of straining today. He's going back
to the vet on Sunday and I'm thinking she may have to help him along.........
ugh.
He is eating fine. I am giving him the lactulose and wet food only. He's
received fluids twice, but I don't think the lactulose is working.

Tonya, make sure you keep an eye on his output, the lactulose is amazing
stuff, but you want to make sure that all of that backed up material gets out.
This happened to my friend Joe's cat Bart (who is 19 if he's a day) but he'd
been so backed up that the stool was impacted and he needed a couple of enemas
to um, help. But he's been on a wet food diet w/lactulose ever since and he
looks fabulous and all his plumbing is functioning properly. I don't remember
how old Bob is, but it's worth mentioning to new vet/keeping your eye on. The
outward symptoms that I saw w/Bart were exceedingly careful and slow movement,
inappetance and dehydration. Keep us posted on Bob's progress.

I waited and took him in at 8:00. My normal vet's office had NO DOCTOR
on site until 2:00! So I tried another vet that has been recommended.
She said that a culture had not been done last week and recommended
taking him off the baytril saying that she thought that was causing him an
upset stomach/intestines etc.... causing problems with defecating.
About $1000 bucks later we did an x-ray that showed no stones. A major
blood work up, a complete thyroid panel, and a leukemia test (just in case).
I was told to take him off antibiotics and put him on lactolose because
his x-rays showed a huge amount of fecal matter. When he's off antibiotics I
am to take him back in for a urine culture.
That's the short version. I am so upset that my vet sold her clinic.
The vet that took over that I took him to last week, just pulled a urine sample
and put him on baytril. She didn't even examine him in front of me.
Everything there is done 'in the back' now.
This new vet seemed very informed and good, but again, they want to take
them to the back to draw blood, urine, etc.... and I just don't like this....

Hi - I always "errr on the side of safety." It may be "nothing" but it
sounds like "something." I would get up and take him to an emergency clinic if
there is one near enough or call in to work and take him to my regular vet.

My cat Bob (negative) has a kidney infection and I took him to the
vet last Thursday. The doctor put him on antibiotics and said he was not
blocked. This morning when I got up there was blood on the sheet where he had
been lying and his rectal area seems red and raw. Does this have anything to
do with the kidney infection, or would this be something totally different?
I'm trying to decide if I should call in sick and take him to the vet first
thing this morning or wait till after work. He had deficated one small very
dry poo this morning along with the bloody places. He acts ok...............
Bob has a history of this and has been operated on for stones before.
The area around his penis looks fine..........
