Bonnie, I don't know what buffers are used with the tablets. I buy the pure L-lysine powder from www.iHerbs.com. That way I don't have to worry about reactions to buffering agents. It comes in a 1 lb jar. I use 1/4 tsp (250 mg) per qt. of water or per one 5.5 oz can of food. Sharyl
