I spoke with the vet this evening and she said Winstrol doesn't work and actually can have negative side effects. I also didn't tell her I had already started him back on the doxycycline but she said she would prefer instead he see the regular vet to see what's going on with his eye. Since the doxycycline his eyes look normal again! I don't sense the same urgency that I have in this vet, although she is better than the first who just said to euthanize. Any ideas how to search FeLV specialists? I've Googled for my area but nothing comes up. I live in San Jose Ca

However, I personally would try the Winstrol and see what response you get with that. You already had a better response with the Doxycycline, so there is still some hope. Absolutely steel yourself though, because it is quite likely that your vet will start pushing for euthanasia if that hasn?t already been suggested. We?ve all had to deal with that pressure from the vets, on this chatline. Resist taking him off the doxycycline and get him on the Winstrol if at all possible. Winstrol has the potential of a quick effect, so you won?t have to wait weeks and weeks to see if there is a positive effect, especially if you draw bloodwork before he starts on the Winstrol. You can often see some quick changes in the haematology profile. Giving him another transfusion will also give some time for different things to work, but again, if you aren?t seeing a discernable boost from the Interferon alone, don?t put all your eggs in that basket. Keep him on it if you like, but try to get the vet to give you the Winstrol as well. My Tigger?s blood work got so much better the pathologist reran the testing process because he couldn?t believe what he was seeing in the results. I did lose Tigg but I feel it was because I started the Winstrol too late. Tigger had the one week on / one week off of the interferon for about 2 months, and his blood declined while on it. But I suppose all cats are different. I just wish I had started the Winstrol and Prednisolone along with the Doxy much earlier. I too didn?t want him to suffer but I don?t feel he suffered.
