Thanks for responding. I reckon they are just peeing,
then, if marking is done on something vertical. The
only reason I could come up with for them peeing on
the rug.......they don't bother the area rug in the
living room....is that this one is new, and they were
having some sort of territorial dispute over it.

Since Susan said the rubber backing smells like amonia
to them, I guess that's most likely the problem. Guess
I'm just gonna hafta get a new rug, and I hate that,
cause this one was really pretty!
