Hi guys,

I guess I have a different take on the whole issue because I work for a
health insurance company. I won't mention the name because you all would
know it!

The problem with health insurance companies in general is that medical
decisions are not made by medical professionals. They are made by ordinary
people like me. I personally think that I am asked to assume way too much
responsibility for these decisions. In my opinion, more things should be
paid. What I don't understand is that a lot of health plans (with the
exception of HMO's) DON'T COVER ROUTINE PROCEDURES OR PREVENTATIVE
MEDICINE!!!! I don't mean to shout, but it makes me mad too. Seems to me
that if health care companies want to reduce cost, they should cover routine
preventative care. You'd eliminate a lot of problems that way in my
opinion.

So I think even if a cat has FeLV (or a human has HIV or MS or diabetes),
there should be no pre-existing clauses. We can greatly improve the
quality of life if we would care for them when they're "well", rather than
waiting for them to get sick. I think if a cat is asymptomatic, their
routine well visits should be covered. I also think that medications like
interferon should be covered.

Just my 2 cents.

Hugs,
Terri & the girls

Hi Gabby - I tend to agree with you although I don't know anything about the
HMO thing... Insurance companies (esp. car insurance) ALWAYS want to rip you
off!!

I will pose that question to petinsurance.com and see what they say. Let you
all know.
