How old is Copper?  A vet recommended that I keep Carolina (negative) separate from Franklin (positive) until she is a year old.  Her immune system will be stronger then.  It will be another four months, but I guess we can do it.  If Franklin remains "healthy" during that period, then I might feel a little more comfortable.

 

It has been a week since we lost  Ernie, and I keep worrying that Franklin will get sick.  I am paranoid if he doesn't eat everything in the bowl or goes under the bed.  Is this a normal (whatever normal is) reaction?

    Good for you.  I think you should call that first vet and complain about the second vet.  Bedside manners are very important when you are dealing with something like this.  A little compassion goes a long way and this insensitive vet not only dashed your hopes, but also may have just caused the loss of a client.  Vets more than anyone should realize how important it is to us that our pets are treated with special care and attention.  If our pets meant nothing more to us than a slab of meat we wouldn't have bothered to take them to the vet in the first place.  You would think someone with college and graduate degrees would have learned that by now.  It's a shame.

 

    Try to wait until Copper has his booster and then some before you mix.  Is that possible? 

 

    By the way, I'm in Houston.

 OK. Now I need advice. Scarlett tested positive, again. She has no symptoms that I have seen, so I will hope that she will not become ill. In the meantime, what can I do to help her fight the virus itself?  I live in a small apartment, so I can't keep her and Copper (neg. and vaccinated) separated. They are both front declawed (not by me!) but will have to share a litter box. Separate water bowls and food dishes are available, but how do you know they aren't sharing anyway??? I guess I am just going to have to take my chances as far as Copper getting the virus. He will go back in for a booster shot in 3 weeks. The vet on duty at my clinic when I took Copper in Monday was very nice and somewhat helpful. When I took Scarlett in yesterday, he was not there and the other vet did not even try to be of help. She told me the Elisa test was 98% accurate and that Scarlett had the virus. She was not open to the suggestion of the other lab test, and was actually q! uite rude. (I should have known when she examined Scarlett with all the consideration you would give to a slab of raw meat.) Needless to say, I am going to call and discuss this with the first vet, but I am already beginning my search for a new clinic. I am in the Dallas Ft. Worth metroplex. Does anyone have any recommendations?
