Of course you did the right thing. You saved what could be saved
immediately. Looking for the kittens would probably have been futile.

Has she a name yet?

Subject: Found abandoned mother cat in the woods

Happy Monday Everyone.

I have a new addition to my cat family. I found a female cat at a popular
running site here in Houston this weekend. She is young, maybe eight months
old, and it is obvious that she was dumped. She is extremely thin, very
friendly, and was scared to death when I found her. She recently had babies
but I have no idea where the babies are. If she had them in the very large
wooded area where I found her, it would have been impossible to find them if
they even survived. I don't know if she was dumped before or after she had
her kittens. I found her at the edge of acres and acres of woods next to a
very busy street that runs through the middle of the wooded park. When I
opened my car door she jumped in. Can you believe that? She wanted out of
there. I found her on Saturday evening, but felt I couldn't take her
because of the possibility of kittens. But when I went back at 6:00 Sunday
morning and found her on the other side of the busy street I felt that those
kittens were either not in the woods or were not alive. I took her home and
am trying to fatten her up. She can't come inside because of my positives,
but I feel she is much better off being in my backyard in a quiet
subdivision vs. living on the edge of woods next to a major street. If
those kittens were out there they would have been impossible to find, and I
seriously doubt they were alive. I had to make a choice between 1) saving
her, or 2) saving the kittens at the mother's expense. I don't know if the
kittens even exist at this point and to put her back in the woods would have
probably meant losing her to the traffic, predators or starvation.

Did I make the right choice? She does not seem to be looking for her babies
or upset in any way. She wants to come in my house, but that seems to be
her only concern.

Peggy
