Denise I am so sorry your babies turned out to be positive. But with your love and help they will have wonderful lives. Take care.

I'm so behind on mail. Thanks for asking about Zinnie and Laverne. Zinnie is still very thin, but the abscess on his toe had finally gotten close to a complete heal. I had to keep him on antibiotics for a very long time. The healing process was extremely slow, perhaps due to the FeLV ? But I am considering him to be stable at this point. Thank you all for your prayers for Zinnie. They truly worked magic. I really didn't think he would make it through, but he did. Laverne is still hanging in there with the FIP. I am starting to wonder if the vet may be wrong. She is still alert and active, but is very very swollen. I am going to push the vet on the Lasix issue. She didn't want to prescribe any at the last visit, but I still think it may help keep her comfortable during her last days. (Thanks for the prodding Sharon !! ). Sometimes we need an extra kick in the butt. Squiggy and Lenny, plus the two above, have come back as positive on their IFA tests. Got the lab results back the day before Thankgiving. I was hoping for better news, but that's okay. They are both happy and healthy at this time. Carmine came back with mixed results, negative ELISA / positive IFA, so he is most likely positive but I plan to retest him just to be sure in a couple of weeks. Money is getting really tight with all the testing, so I have to be really careful how I spend over the next month. I did get the Interferon just this week. Spunky was the only one of the six who was able to fight off the virus. He was not a member of the 'original' group and was exposed to them briefly (2 or 3 days maybe) before it was known that the other 5 were positive. He tested as a "light positive" in September. I separated him immediately and now two months later, he is coming back as negative ELISA / negative IFA. I feel blessed that at least 1 of the 6 kittens can find a quick home. BTW - I had James remove him from the FeLV adoption web page. I had two interested adopters call me on him, and I plan on interviewing them both over weekend. As much as my boys and I love our little baby boy Spunky, due to the circumstances I will need to have him placed as soon as possible. The little stinker keeps trying to sneak into the FeLV room to play with Squiggy and Lenny and it makes me nervous wreck. He is so quick, he got pass us a couple of times and we've had to chase him down. Also, once Spunky finds a home, I can finally free up one of my son's rooms for the next medical emergency. My house has been more of a hospice than a home lately. Thanks to all my friends on the list for your support, prayers, advice and occasional "wake-up" kick in butt. This has been very difficult on me, my boys, my job, and has taken it toll on my relationship with my boyfriend. He is supportive, but is growing weary and impatient with me. I never have any time at all for him anymore. All I talk about is cats, cats, cats. Interferon, predizone, lasix, whether they are eating or not eating (whatever may be the case at the time), the texture of poop, and this morning the conversation centered around the hairball I found on his pillow provided proudly as gift from my 16-year cat Meechie. Ahh -- so much for romance. This has just made my day! What wonderful news! I've done some reading on the Elisa and IFA tests, and instances of kittens who test positive and then test negative happen often. They really are negative and the IFA will confirm that. I'd get that IFA just to be sure though. How's Laverne? Since you've got the other kittens tuning out to be negative, ask your vet if she could possibly have something else that mimics FIP but is treatable, like bacterial peritonitis. And what about Zinnie? Is he gaining any weight? Did you try Nutrical with him? I hope you get negative results back for the others, gosh, I am so happy for you!
