Did the vet suggest Epogen? Sharon

I took Opal back to the vet today. Had her check the RBC and do a smear for Hemobart. Opal was actually quite animated today, very purry and rubbing on me and the basket....not so lethargic. I had been prepared to make hard decisions today if the vet thought he was worse.... Any way, the news is mixed, I guess: RBC down slightly from Thursday when it was 15%, I don't remember the exact number (I was taking in too much info over the phone), a significant wt drop of 1+ lb since Thursday--that's the bad news, and the sort of encouraging news is the Hemobart smear did not show parasites, but did indicate regenerative anemia, meaning the marrow is still producing or trying to produce RBCs. The vet said sometimes the parasites don't show in the smear, so we are going to treat as if Opal has Hemobart. Plus, we are starting on the appetite stimulant--not the steroid, but something like cry....cypher... or something. I pick up all the meds tommorow (the reports came back too late today, it was after hours.) So even though Opal has declined, he is still alert and the anemia might be reversible since the marrow is still working somewhat. The bad news is the wt loss--it's hard to find anything he will eat. He has been slurping some KMR type stuff off/on a little last night and today, plus I got some nutrical in him, too. Poor baby is so scruffy looking bec. half the time I get the stuff ON him instead of IN him! He is usually a beautiful snowy white odd-eyed cat....looks pretty raggedy now :( ANY ADVICE OR FEEDBACK IS WELCOMED. And just to really top of my day, my Christmas cash ($1500) was stolen out of my purse! I just got the cash and before I could get it home and stash it......................IT'S ALL GONE!! I actually think it happened while I was waiting to go into court for a hearing.. Talk about one bummer after another.
