Hi Paolo, I too am sorry about your baby Frizzina. This disease can move so
quickly and sadly there is very often nothing you can do. Glenda has
mentioned some excellent treatments and I just want to add interferon. This
did work wonders for my cat Bandit and I know many others on the list have
used it with success. for this to work the way it should you generally need
to start it when the cat isn't showing symptoms. This helps keep the viral
load down, preventing the onset of felv related symptoms.

Please give your fur babies a big hug!

Sue c.

>Your wife and you are wonderful to care for so many cats! My heart goes
>out to you both with the loss of your dear Frizzina. The anemia that
>Frizzina had can be caused by several things, and some, unfortunately
>cannot be successfully treated, but many of them can. One of my cats,
>unfortunately, like your Frizzina had a fatal form of the anemia and I
>had to let him go last spring. Caramilk, however, one of my FeLV cats,
>who is now between 10 - 12 years old, for example, had been diagnosed
>with a very low white blood cell count, and had swollen lymph nodes and
>non-regenerative anemia - he had pale gums and ears, and had stopped
>eating in January 2000. 3 Vets (including the Vet Clinic that treats
>many of the cats from the cat rescue organization I volunteer at!!)
>informed the foster care mother who was taking care of him that in his
>sad condition there was no treatment to help. I got involved in his care
>and we took him to two other Vets' that said the same thing!!! So, I
>feel I CAN "bash" certain Vets'. One of the other volunteers gave the
>foster mom DMG (which Dr. Myers also recommends from the archives) to
>give to Caramilk and it helped him get through some, but not all, of
>these symptoms. Unfortunately he then started losing his hair and I was
>asked to adopt him. I found a Vet Clinic that felt he could be helped.
>We added different supplements and treatments and changed his diet so he
>now eats only raw meat with organs and vegetables. Since the summer of
>2000 he has been symptom free and is now almost a bit too chubby, and to
>look at him you would not know he is FeLV positive. Because he was so
>ill when I first adopted him, I now have blood tests performed every 6
>months, but so far, so good and all blood test results show a healthy
>cat. Fredo, who is now 4 has never displayed any symptoms, and in fact,
>his teeth are in better shape then one of my FeLV negatives, who will
>shortly be going to have her teeth cleaned! All of my FeLV cats are on
>DMG and ProZyme, antioxidants, Thymus, CoEnzyme Q10 and I always keep
>Lysine on hand just in case... I also lost 2 one year old cats in the
>summer last year, so I know the immense grief & heartache of losing cats
>to this horrible disease. I will spend whatever I can afford to help
>them, because it is not their fault that they were diagnosed with FeLV,
>after all.

>The archives will let you know that several members in the past have

>of good health, even though the ELISA test was negative, they were
>actually FeLV positive... Caramilk's undiagnosed FeLV is similar to
>your Frizzina in that the ELISA test was negative. He received the
>vaccine that covers the two respiratory viruses and the panleukopenia
>(called a 3-in-1 vaccine here in Canada) at the age of 8 - 10 years old,
>and voila, the FeLV reared its ugly face. If the IFA test had been done,
>the FeLV may have shown up. Because he was healthy when the rescue
